Authorities are questioning one person regarding a fire in a vacant North Plainfield home.
The fire started just before 3 a.m. Wednesday at a two-story home under construction on Maple Avenue, and spread to two neighboring homes. Six people were displaced and one firefighter was injured.
“The entire house was on fire and the ones on either side of it were starting to catch fire,” says Fire Chief William Eaton. “Left mostly confined the two exposures and one original house.”
One of the homes belongs to the Lane family. Teresa Lane awoke to the crackling flames.
“I look toward the window and just orange color and yelled the house is on fire, we got to get out of here,” says Teresa. “We all jumped out, grab the pets and made our way out as fast as we could.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Police have not released information on the person who was taken in for questioning.
