Hanukkah celebration honors victims and heroes of Jersey City shooting attack

A Hanukkah event held in Jersey City Monday night honored the victims and heroes of the Jersey City Jewish grocery store attack.
The menorah lighting took place outside the JC Kosher supermarket - the site of the Dec. 10 shootings.
Organizers used the occasion to honor and remember the victims and to call for the community to live and work together in peace.
Those in attendance paused to remember Jersey City Detective Joseph Seals, who was killed by the shooters in a confrontation prior to the attack. The attendees also recognized the heroism of officers Mariela Fernandez and Raymond Sanchez, who were injured while responding to the scene.
Douglas Rodriguez was killed while working inside the Kosher market. His wife says he was a hero and helped others escape the gunfire.
And there was a final call for a community to come together to let this tragedy mark a new chapter in a city that prides itself on diversity.
"We won't let hate overtake us or define us. That love will overcome hate, that light will overcome darkness and that we will come together and stand shoulder to shoulder as we are this evening,” said New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal.
Douglas Miguel Rodriguez was laid to rest with full military honors in his home country of Ecuador late last week.
