The borough of North Arlington held a candlelight vigil Sunday evening for Jersey City Police Detective Joseph Seals.
Seals was killed in the Jersey City shooting Tuesday.
He was a resident of North Arlington and lived just blocks away from the Queen of Peace Church - where the vigil took place.
Seals was married with five children.
He was a 15-year veteran of the Jersey City police who helped get dozens of guns off the streets as part of the department's Cease Fire Unit. According to Jersey City police officials, Seals led the department in removing illegal guns from the streets in recent years.
Jersey City's police commissioner says Seals was on duty Tuesday when he was gunned down at Bayview Cemetery on Garfield Avenue. Jersey City's Mayor Steven Fulop described Seals as someone who was involved in Jersey City, who officers knew because he was "a good cop."
The viewing for Seals will be Monday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral home on Pavonia Avenue in Jersey City. His funeral will be on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Aedan's Church on Bergen Avenue, also in Jersey City.
