Heavy rain and strong winds caused some flooding and damage to develop around the Garden State.

The rain began in most areas of the state by Wednesday afternoon. News 12 New Jersey Meteorologist Dave Curren says that some areas of New Jersey saw over a half-inch of rain an hour for a time during the storm.

The heavy rain caused some street flooding in towns like Hackensack, Edgewater and Newark.

Strong winds caused some trees to fall around the state and also blew away any outdoor items that were not tied down.

A major concern with Wednesday’s storm was coastal flooding and beach erosion. But Curren says that the winds were coming from a western direction and did not impact the Jersey Shore as much as originally feared.

But the winds and rain did cause major delays at area airports. Newark Liberty International Airport saw up to 2 hours and 30 minutes delays Wednesday evening.

Some power outages were also reported in various areas of the state.

The rain was expected to end during the overnight hours. Thursday should see dry, but cloudy conditions.
