A Bergen County mother accused of killing her newborn baby with a kitchen knife has pleaded not guilty.
Hiralbahen Bhavsar is charged with the murder of her baby on May 2. Police officers were called to her Little Ferry apartment after family members say she locked herself and the child inside a bedroom.
Officials say that when police officers entered the room, the baby was already dead.
A detention hearing is scheduled for May 17 to determine if Bhavsar will remain in jail until her trial.
