Lyndhurst students went to class on a normal schedule Tuesday morning following a police investigation that dispelled rumors of a possible shooting threat.

The local police department says a rumor about a former student planning a violent act with a gun was spread among students over the past week.

Police looked into the matter with help from the School Resource Division, Criminal Investigations Division and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Threat Management Unit.

Law enforcement found no credible threat, calling the incident “egregious case of disinformation.”

Officials say officers will be at the school as a precaution.
