A 35-year-old Newark man faces up to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of murder in the 2023 shooting of a 60-year-old man.

Essex County prosecutors say Antwine King was convicted on Oct. 20 of murder, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose following three days of jury deliberations.

The charges stem from the Oct. 22, 2023, killing of Vincent Anderson, also of Newark. Prosecutors proved at trial that King engaged in a verbal argument with Anderson near the intersection of Clinton Place and Renner Avenue before shooting Anderson once in the back and fleeing on foot.

Six days after the fatal shooting, U.S. Marshals apprehended King in Laredo, Texas.

"While no verdict can bring Vincent back or ease the pain of those who loved him, this conviction affirmed that his life mattered," Assistant Prosecutor said following the verdict.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 5, 2027, and faces 30 years to life in state prison.
