Son’s dream of opening dog park in mother’s honor gets closer to reality
A Bergen County man’s dream of opening up a dog park in honor of his late mother is getting closer to becoming true.
The Borough Council has given Ryan Schwertfeger the go-ahead.

His plan is to put in a dog park on a portion of Great Oak Park which now sits abandoned and waiting for renovation.
It started as a school project when he was in eighth grade.  He's now 24.
He plans to name the park after his mom Jill, who died of cancer when he was a teenager.
She was the first to give him the idea.
"After my mom passed away it was like well I gotta get it done for mom. She was the one who wanted me to do this in the first place," Schwertfeger said.

He needs about 35-thousand dollars more to make this real.
He hopes to break ground by fall.
