March Madness: 2 New Jersey schools make it to college basketball tourney
Two New Jersey college basketball teams have made it to the "March Madness" NCAA college basketball tournament.
The Seton Hall Pirates have made it for the fourth time in a row – a stretch not seen since the team's glory years.
"I think it shows a lot about the character of these kids. It shows a lot about the heart of this program," says Seton Hall Coach Kevin Willard.
While Willard doesn't reel in the nation's biggest recruits, he does get the next best available – players like Myles Powell. Now their top player, Powell rising to stardom close to home. He is from Trenton.
"There's nothing like home love. When you see your mom out there and you see your father out there, there's nothing like it," Powell says. "Just to put a smile on their face, that's what it's all about."
The team also has player Michael Nzei, who left his parents in Nigeria to come to Seton Hall.
"Throughout my journey, it's always been like I had to leave something good for something better," he says.
Nzei says that he doesn't want to take his opportunities for granted.
The other New Jersey team in the tournament this year is Fairleigh Dickinson. The Knights were victorious in their play-in game, and will now move on to play No. 1 Gonzaga later this week.
This will be the first year that New Jersey residents will be allowed to wager on March Madness thanks to the new sports gambling laws. But the one caveat is that no wagers are allowed on New Jersey teams.
