The homeless man involved in the alleged GoFundMe scheme raising hundreds of thousands of dollars has been released from Burlington County Jail.
Johnny Bobbit appeared in court this morning, where his attorneys and prosecutor's agreed to terms of his release.
Bobbit can return to his apartment in Philadelphia, but must wear an electronic monitor and attend Narcotics Anonymous three times a week while he awaits trial.
According to prosecutors, Bobbit worked with Mark D'Amico and Katelyn McClure, a couple from Burlington County, to make up a ‘feel good story’ in order to scam people.
Prosecutors say the tale of Bobbit using his last $20 to help a stranded McClure buy gas was actually a complete lie, manufactured to get strangers to donate more than $400,000 to help the Good Samaritan.
All three have been charged with theft by deception and conspiracy.
