A Bergen County man was honored on Sunday, about a year after he was killed by a driver on a Manhattan bike path
A memorial was unveiled in front of Town Hall to honor Darren Drake, who would have been 34 years old on Sunday.
Drake was one of eight people killed in New York City last Halloween, when a man drove a rented truck onto a Manhattan bike path.
Drake’s family honored his memory through a scholarship at his old high school in his name. They say they have also been working with New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer to require truck rental companies to screen customers.
Sayfullo Saipov, of Paterson, admitted to driving the truck into Drake and the others. Saipov told authorities that he drew inspiration from ISIS. He rented the truck from a Passaic Home Depot.
