Gov. Phil Murphy showed up at the palatial set of a new NBC spy thriller to say the state's new film and TV tax credit is up and running.
The governor and lawmakers were on hand at the large Cresskill home being used for "The Enemy Within," starring Jennifer Carpenter.
Murphy signed the tax credit legislation in July. Former Gov. Chris Christie let the previous tax credit program expire in 2015.
“Today we’re putting New Jersey back in the spotlight. As part of our budget we renewed the film and television tax credit that had helped draw production teams from across the country and in fact around the world to New Jersey,” Murphy said.
Christie famously opposed a $420,000 tax credit for the MTV series "Jersey Shore" because he said it perpetuated misconceptions about the state.
The new program could cost taxpayers up to $425 million over five years. But Murphy says it will also lead to business for cafes, hotels and organized labor.
NBC Universal says that it is spending over $50 million and is bringing in 300 jobs to New Jersey during the production.
