Vigil held to honor pregnant mom, kids slain in Colorado
A candlelight vigil was held on Clifton’s Albion Field Friday to honor a pregnant mother who was murdered, along with her two children in Colorado.
Shanann Watts and her two daughters were allegedly killed by her husband Christ Watts.
Shanann was a native of Passaic County and once lived in Clifton.
The three were laid to rest last weekend in North Carolina, where Watts also used to live.
Shanann was pregnant with a little boy at the time of the murder. He was also honored.
Chris Watts is currently in jail awaiting his trial.
According to an arrest affidavit, Chris told police he killed Shanann in "a rage" when he discovered she had strangled their two daughters after he sought a separation.
However, Colorado prosecutors filed formal charges, accusing the former oil and gas worker of murdering his entire family days before he was interviewed by local television stations and pleaded for his missing family's safe return home.
Under state law, the top punishment for homicide is the death penalty or life in prison.
