For the second time this weekend, crews were scrambling Sunday to patch up a water main break in Hoboken.
Residents weren’t impacted by the latest break on 13th Street between Madison and Jefferson streets. But it marked the city’s seventh break in six weeks.
Mayor Ravi Bhalla blasted SUEZ Water Company once again for the issues, ordering them to immediately end work on its water meter upgrade project and other non-emergency operations until the cause is fully investigated.
"I'm very concerned that the cause of the series of water mains is directly connected to the water meter pet project in the Southwest," says Mayor Bhalla. "I have put a stop to that project immediately until we investigate the cause of these water mains."
Officials say a 16-inch burst Saturday at Newark and Hudson streets sent water pouring out.
