There is a FLOOD WATCH in effect for much of central New Jersey on Monday for strong downpours that can create areas of flash flooding from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
There is a HEAT ADVISORY in effect for parts of the state through 8 p.m. Tuesday.
There is a RIP CURRENT STATEMENT for the Jersey Shore, as strong and life-threatening rip currents are expected today. This is likely to last through this week.
If you have spent any time outside today, you noticed how warm and extremely humid it was. The air over New Jersey is straight from South Carolina. That low country air is smothering us with deep south moisture. The leftovers of what was once Tropical Storm Chantal are passing directly over the state.
The storm’s origins were right off Charleston. Water-loaded downbursts will be common tonight. Localized flood potential is elevated because the atmosphere is loaded with moisture.
Heat is the focus for tomorrow's forecast. Daytime highs reach the mid-90s, while that Carolina air continues to wrap us in that very uncomfortable summer blanket of humidity. It will feel more like 100+ degrees tomorrow, making it feel very laborious to spend any time outside if you aren't at the pool, lake or beach. Take it slow. Get in the AC as much as possible. Stay hydrated.
This summer pattern continues all week. Warm and humid. Periods of sun and clouds and at any given moment in time, plan for a brief superabundant round of rain that will continue to leave a very swampy feel in its wake.
