There is a Heat Advisory in effect for Mercer County and points south along the Delaware River for hot temperatures reaching the 90s, but feel like temperatures approaching 100.
FORECAST:
Numerous severe storms are expected across New Jersey today as overwhelming humidity levels and high heat settle over the state. Thunderstorms today will likely be severe, beginning after 1 p.m. as small pop-up storms that rapidly intensify and become quite large as they move from west to east.
The storms will increase in intensity and in number by 4 p.m. where the worst of the stormy weather pushes through between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Individually, the storms don't last a long time, but they carry a punch of gusts of 40-60 mph or even greater. There will be grape-sized hail possible in some storms as bold updrafts are expected from these weather conditions. Expect frequent lightning as well.
A tornado cannot be ruled out as supercells are expected with rotating thunderstorms.
Wind damage can be from downbursts, straight line winds, and/or tornadoes. Storms end near sunset with humidity dropping into the overnight.
It feels more comfortable tomorrow morning.
Hot weather rolls in for this weekend with lots of sunshine. Temperatures reach the 90s through the weekend and early next week.
There could be a quick sprinkle on Saturday night or on Sunday but without any real impacts. The hottest day of the upcoming heat wave is Tuesday.
