There is a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH in effect for Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Salem, Somerset and Warren counties until midnight.
There is a FLOOD WATCH in effect for central and southern New Jersey for area flooding expected within storms later this afternoon and evening.
After our fifth day of temperatures well into the 90s, a much-needed break from the swampy weather could be right around the corner. Well…the temperatures won't be in the 90s, but the sticky air will linger for a few more days.
Strong storms will pass through later tonight. Drenching rains may lead to localized flooding. Water-loaded downdrafts might bring damaging winds to some of the more serious cells.
The winds will become more southerly but off the ocean. That wind direction keeps the weather humid, but it will bring the temperatures down for Thursday.
The rains and storms will continue through the overnight but taper by Thursday morning. Thursday looks OK. Clouds and sun - warm and humid. The daily high could be around 87 degrees. This would be 10 degrees cooler than what we experienced today.
There is a small chance that a few pop-up storms could develop, but nothing very organized. Similar forecast for Friday with a little more cloud coverage.
Showers swing through late Friday night into Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon will hopefully begin to dry out and leave us with a nice day.
