FORECAST:
A moderate impact storm is expected to blow through NJ on Thursday with strong gusts, copious amounts of rain and coastline flooding/erosion.
The storm is currently developing over the Great Plains where it moves south just enough to scoop up moisture from the Gulf. This will enhance the intensity of the storm as the jet stream carries it up toward New Jersey into Thursday.
The center of the low-pressure area will be over Pennsylvania, which means New Jersey is expected to see statewide impacts of rain and wind. The coastal winds will be from the east-southeast, not northeasterly this time.
This continues to erode the beaches, displacing sand, and causing minor to moderate flooding in the northern side of the Barnegat Bay. Gusts will be 30-50 mph across the state with the strongest gusts near the coast.
These types of storms also come with a threat for thunderstorms with strong gusts as the storm comes from inland and not the coast. There is a low chance for severe thunderstorms on Thursday as a result.
Additionally, the cold front connected to this storm may be able to tap into moisture from Hurricane Melissa, which will be offshore of the Turks and Caicos by Wednesday.
If the inland runner connects to that moisture earlier enough, rainfall amounts can be enhanced. This is something to watch carefully but not assured at this time.
Halloween looks fantastic with highs near 62 degrees, but it will be windy with passing sun and clouds.
