Acting Gov. Tahesha Way declared a state of emergency for New Jersey ahead of a coastal storm.
The state of emergency goes into effect at 10 p.m. on Saturday in preparation for the nor’easter that is expected to move through the state Sunday into Monday.
Forecasters say the storm could bring flash flooding, heavy rain and damaging winds.
“I urge all New Jerseyans to exercise caution, monitor local weather forecasts and warnings, stay informed on evacuation protocols, and remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary,” Way wrote in a statement.
This storm is expected to impact the Jersey Shore, especially.
Way told News 12 that she is coordinating with state police, the power companies and other agencies as the storm approaches. She said she has a message for New Jersey residents this weekend.
"I just want everyone to be cautious and safe out there. Of course, if you don't need to travel on Sunday - if you're in the midst of the storm, especially - please do not. And if you are out there because you have to be there, please drive cautiously. You can go to our ready.nj.gov, our official state channels, including @GovMurphy on X, for the latest timely information,” Way told News 12.
