A volunteer high school football coach and a 17-year-old student in East Hanover were among those collared Tuesday for allegedly selling and distributing steroids.
In all, 16 people were arrested in connection with selling steroids. Police say the basement of a home served as a sophisticated drug and steroid manufacturing lab. Authorities say they found more than 500 steroid pills and enough material to make 35,000 more.
The arrest of 24-year-old Anthony Cuppari, a volunteer football coach at Hanover Park High School, and a student has sent shockwaves through the district. Many parents are now concerned about steroid use in the school.
Among the others arrested was professional body builder Jason Arntz. He has been charged with conspiracy to manufacture steroids. Investigators believe the steroids were sold in gyms and parking lots around town.
