A wooden statue caused quite the scare when it was found outside a Burlington County gas station over the weekend.
According to the Burlington City police, someone found a 3-foot tall wood figurine that resembles someone wearing Middle Eastern garb and holding an assault rifle. The statue was hidden in the bushes in the area of Route 130 South and High Street, outside the Burlington Gulf station.
Someone took a video of the statue and posted it on social media. The video went viral, attracting thousands of views.
A concerned resident saw the video and alerted police in Burlington City. Officers responded to the gas station and found the statue. They worked to determine who put it there and why, posting a picture of it on their Facebook page.
On Monday, a 37-year-old man from Langhorne, Pennsylvania claimed ownership of the statue. It is not known why he left it at the gas station, but Burlington City police say the man did not intend to negatively affect business at the gas station. He will not be facing any criminal charges, according to police.
