A New Jersey state trooper has been charged with driving drunk while he was in Indiana to attend another officer's funeral.
Authorities say that Trooper Michael Kulik was arrested after being stopped in West Lafayette on Oct. 18. The arrest occurred hours before he was due to represent New Jersey State Police at the funeral of Indiana State Trooper Peter "Bo" Stephan, who was killed in a crash while responding to a call on Oct. 11.
Officials say Kulik did not attend the funeral because he was still in custody.
A spokesperson for the New Jersey State Police says that Kulik has been suspended from the department without pay.
It wasn't known Thursday if Kulik has retained an attorney.
