State police say a motorist was fatally struck in Elk Township, Gloucester County after he got out of his vehicle following an unrelated crash.
The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. on Route 55.
According to state police, Edward Phillips, 40, of Middle Township, was driving northbound on the highway when he was involved in a crash.
State police say Phillips pulled over and got out of his vehicle. He then entered the highway's left lane, where he was struck by a passing car.
The driver of the car that struck Phillips remained at the scene.
Authorities say no charges have been filed so far.
No other injuries were reported in either crash.
