A former Woodbridge mayor and his wife were involved in a fatal crash on the Garden State Parkway Friday, state police say.

They say former Mayor Philip Cerria and his wife, Margaret, were in their Chevy Malibu when it overturned on the northbound side of the highway.

Officials say Cerria was hospitalized, while his wife died on the scene. He was the mayor of Woodbridge from 1984 to 1987.
