State, local leaders alarmed by large crowd at popular Jersey Shore bar over the weekend
Some state and local leaders say that they were alarmed by large crowds at a popular Jersey Shore bar this past weekend.
Videos posted on social media showed crowds at D’Jais in Belmar not adhering to social distancing rules. Many appeared to not be wearing masks.
Belmar Mayor Mark Walsifer says that the town will make the bar comply with the rules.
Gov. Phil Murphy also said that he was disappointed by what went on as the state begins to reopen.
“Folks have let their hair down a little bit too much. So, folks, we can’t do that. We’re taking these steps based on positive data, but we don’t want to look like the others states that have gone through hell and now they’re going back through hell,” Murphy said.
Walsifer says that extra police will be on hand this weekend and if the bar and management cannot handle the crowds and follow pandemic guidelines, it will be shut down.
