An unidentified woman was shot and killed by police in Fort Lee early Sunday morning, according to the State Attorney General's Office.
It happened around 1:30 a.m. in The Pinnacle apartment complex on Main Street.
Officials say a man called 911 to report that his sister was having a mental health crisis. The caller also said that his sister was holding a knife. When officers arrived, they were not allowed in. The officers forced the door open.
Officials say when the sister approached them in the hallway, an officer fired a single shot. She was pronounced dead after she was taken to the hospital.
The State Attorney General's Office says a knife was found at the scene.
