Sick kids staying at Goryeb Children's Center in Summit received a special surprise for Halloween – a visit from “Star Wars” and “Ghostbusters” characters.
Volunteers from the 501st Legion came to the center to visit the kids. The group dresses up as characters from movies for charitable events.
“We’re in flu season. A lot of respiratory things going on, so a lot of patients are in contact isolation,” says child life specialist Heather Hernendez. “They’re stuck in their rooms for a long period of time, so this just provides and outlet and just normalize holidays that are being missed because they’re not at home.”
The staff at the hospital also does what they call "reverse trick-or-treating." Members go room to room and deliver patients treats since they can't go out on their own.
