A New Jersey animal shelter is looking for donations from the community so it can keep helping the state’s animals.
St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center did receive a large food donation from Greater Good and Chewy.
“We were lucky enough once the COVID pandemic started to receive two tractor-trailers full of food,” says CEO Michelle Thevenin.
The Madison-based shelter was able to open a contactless drive-thru pet food bank to give pet owners the supplies that they needed.
“We ask what they need and we give it to them. It’s a low barrier. We want people who need help to have low barriers to receive that help,” Thevenin says.
People have been donating cat and dog food and other supplies. But St. Hubert’s says that to stay even, more donations will be needed. So, the shelter is putting out the call for more pet food.
Thevenin says that a lack of food is a big reason why animals are surrendered. The shelter says that it wants to make sure that pet owners are able to keep their pets – especially in a time where the unconditional love of a pet is so important.
“We want people to be able to feed the animals who are providing them so much care and love. In this time of stress, sometimes our pets are the things that are anchoring us to this world,” Thevenin says.
Donations can be dropped off at the shelter or sent via its Amazon Wishlist.
The drive-thru is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. More information can be found on the
St. Hubert’s website.
