Doctor Douglas Zimmel and Doctor Kevin Jina are with New Jersey Pain and Neuropathy in Edison. They are here on Spotlight. When we left off in the last segment, we were talking about your federal workers' comp versus state. Tell me about that. Well, a lot of people when they get hurt on the job, um, the laws are very uh difficult here in New Jersey, but they're very specific. If you get hurt on a regular job, you report it to your employer and they should have workers' compensation. Um, insurance which should cover any workers, but if you're a federal employee, that's all separate animals, so you have to go through the federal program. So a lot of patients, they go to the the ER and they get stuck kind of in the system and 34 months later they're treating in offices that don't understand they're not supposed to be there they're supposed to be in a federal workers' comp office because. The case needs to get accepted. It, it's like we do, we've done a lot of personal injury work in our, so the, the person gets an accident. Our job is to understand the um uh the injury, uh, put together a treatment program and document the progress, and at the end tied up in a neat little package, give it to the attorney, and you know he goes into and tries to make a settlement. This is reversed. We have to make the case from the beginning where we have to take all of the information. And we have to causally relate it uh to the incident to their job, make sure everything works, and then submit it and once it gets approved, then the rest is just treatment. So it's kind of reverse of of normal treatment. It's a very difficult program to understand like I said, every day we go in the office, it's challenging. We love it, but we still learn every day there's something we look at each other and laugh and it's like, well, I didn't know that. So you're learning on the job too. I love that all day every day. What do patients say when they find you? How do they go about seeking you out? Well, they, they've had coworkers who have been injured and through our, our facility, and we get pretty good feedback because of that referral. It's a word of mouth and we're just, you know, spreading like wildfire because we navigate that system so well. We know the paperwork, we know what needs to be done and as uh Doctor Zuma alluded to, we get that paperwork accepted on a in a timely fashion and we we build that case from the onset. And we, we just keep, um, you know, molding that case into, uh, where it needs to be as far as being accepted and relating it to the job and how this job, this injury affects our job. We've had people come in that been searching for uh an OWCP. It's called the Office of Workers Compensation, uh, protection. An OWCP, um, uh, physician's office and they're literally searching for years for somebody that understands the system and can treat them. In the meantime they're not getting uh paid. They've lost their jobs, they lost it. They've gotten divorced, they've lost their houses. So the quicker they can get in to see somebody like us, the the better a chance we get to circumvent things and make everything go smoothly.
