A police search in Middlesex County ended with a man hiding in a refrigerator asking to be shot.
South Brunswick Police Officer Jarrid Harpster was patrolling Maple Street when he spotted a fleeing 26-year-old Dominick Zippo. Police say Zippo had outstanding warrants for his arrest and took off into a house because of the officer's presence.
More South Brunswick police officers arrived as backup and went into the house to look for Zippo.
One of the officers opened a refrigerator and found Zippo, who is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds, hiding inside.
Police say that Zippo was holding a 5-inch knife and was yelling at officers to shoot him. According to investigators, Zippo refused to drop the knife but was pulled out of the refrigerator and wrestled to the ground by officers. An officer then pepper-sprayed him when he still refused to drop the knife, according to police.
Zippo was arrested and charged with robbery, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
