An Atco man was arrested Friday and charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 71-year-old bicyclist in Camden County last weekend, according to authorities.
Aaron K. Tart Jr., 24, was taken into custody in Deptford by the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Tart is charged with second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, third-degree endangering an injured victim, and fourth-degree tampering with evidence, according to the Camden County Prosecutor.
The incident occurred around 1:17 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. Voorhees Police officers responded to the 100 block of North Route 73 and found a bicyclist lying unresponsive in the roadway.
The victim, identified as 71-year-old Maksudur Rahman of Berlin Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that two separate vehicles struck Rahman and fled without stopping.
Detectives identified the first vehicle that struck Rahman as a gray Ford Fusion driven by Tart.
According to authorities, Tart allegedly covered the damaged car following the crash and had its windshield replaced in an effort to conceal the crime.
Law enforcement recovered the Ford Fusion at the scene of Tart's arrest in Deptford.
Police are still actively searching for the second vehicle involved in the fatal strike, which investigators believe is a dark-colored midsize SUV, possibly a Honda Pilot.
