The South Bronx Farmers Market has officially opened for the season in Mott Haven.
Dozens of Bronx residents turned out to 138th Street to buy different varieties of locally grown, all-natural produce, including fresh fruits and vegetables.
Organizers say the fresh-fruit stands offer a wide range of healthy choices for residents. Yvette Pharr owns a 2-acre community garden farm near East 138th Street and the Grand Concourse, and says the market gives residents a chance to enjoy her products while helping her business grow.
Vendors also hold cooking demonstrations for people who may not know how to prepare certain vegetables.
The market, which accepts food stamps, will be open Saturdays this summer from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
