Somerset temple shows support for mosque attack victims
People of all faiths packed a Jewish temple for an evening of prayers and support for the victims of the terror attack in New Zealand that claimed 50 lives.
It was a packed house at Temple Beth El Somerset for the interfaith ceremony.
Rabbi Eli Garfunkel told News 12 that he wanted to return the favor to the mosque in New Zealand that he says was “very kind to us” in the wake of the murders at a Pittsburgh temple last year.
“We wanted to do this, not only because it's the right thing to do, but because we wanted to recognize and return the favor that they did to us," says Rabbi Garfunkel.
Authorities say a 28-year old Australian man, a self-described white supremacist, was behind the massacre which killed 50 people and injured dozens, including children.
Religious leaders say they will not allow violent attacks to tear them apart.
There were no credible threats, but police officers were in place throughout the prayer session.
