Some of those affected by Superstorm Sandy who still aren't back in their homes over 6 years after the storm will be getting some additional help.

Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday that about 1,000 people who are still participating in New Jersey's main Sandy rebuilding program can benefit from the removal of a cap that had limited grants to $150,000.

They also could be eligible for an additional 19 months of rental assistance as they rebuild their homes.

The governor also says that the state has gotten approval to repurpose $50 million in federal funds to help storm victims who are still displaced.

Many of those impacted by the storm say that recovery has been a never-ending process.

“I feel horrible for the people who are still not even in a home,” says Sandy victim Kelly Coughlan. “It doesn’t get any easier…it’s not going to until everything is done and my file is closed out…and I can finally start to not think about it."

State representatives will be holding regional town meetings with victims to advise them what funds will be made available.
