Many students in the Garden State are heading back to school this week. But the first few days back come amid a heat wave with some districts considering changes to their schedules.
The first day of school in Metuchen began Tuesday, and students were scheduled for early dismissal. Over the weekend, the superintendent sent parents a message online to warn them that schools may need to close early some other days this week amid a heat advisory.
The superintendent says that the early dismissal scheduled will last for the entire week due to the warm temperatures.
With high temperatures expected in the 90s this week, some school districts in South Jersey have also opted for early dismissal. Camden city schools have made Wednesday and Thursday half days, and all after-school activities are canceled.
In Winslow Township, schools will be on early dismissal all this week due to the heat wave.
As you're heading out this week, be mindful of students walking to school, school buses on the road and those reduced speed limits around school buildings.
