‘Snow buddies’ help dig their neighbors out of the snow
Neighbors helping neighbors – that is the goal of the Mountainside “snow buddies” program.
Jay Post, 17, and his mother Kiersten Post answered a call on the Mountainside Facebook page asking for volunteers to help shovel snow. Jay says that since he had a snow day off from school, he didn’t mind helping out.
“It’s just nice to be out here. There’s a lot of people who have issues shoveling the driveway and I have the capability to do that and it just helps other people,” he says.
The Posts were paired up with Kathy Lunn. She suffers from a heart condition and has a hard time shoveling snow when it is heavy.
“You don't know how grateful I am. It is like a godsend because I was worried what would happen tonight if I drove out over it and it froze like that,” Lunn says.
Jay says that he enjoyed spending time with his mom and helping out his neighbors.
“It’s a good experience, nice to have family time. We have more people in my family that I’m sure would have come out if they did not have school or work,” he says.
Jay and his mother were able to help several neighbors Monday.
A snowstorm late Sunday night dropped at least 10 inches of snow on parts of the Garden State.
