During this winter storm, “angels” in Westchester weren’t found in the clouds, but on snowy driveways.

Volunteers with the Town of Greenburgh’s Snow Angels program were out helping elderly residents dig out after a heavy snowfall.

One stop was the home of Bela and Sigi Toth in Hartsdale.

Bela is turning 87 this summer and Sigi is 84. A snowplow had accidentally blocked their driveway, leaving them unable to get out. With limited mobility and health concerns, including Sigi’s past heart surgery, shoveling wasn’t an option.

“They pushed the snow back and blocked us in,” Bela said.

The couple reached out through the Snow Angels program, sending photos of the situation to Town Supervisor Paul Feiner. He quickly contacted the Department of Public Works to help.

By the next morning, DPW crews had already cleared the driveway. Volunteers still stopped by to check in, including one Snow Angel who turned out to be a Bela and Sigi's childhood neighbor.

With one job complete, the volunteers headed to their next assignment in Hastings, continuing their mission to keep seniors safe and supported throughout the storm.
