Six Flags restores historic Runaway Train roller coaster to classic look
The Jackson theme park says the restoration honors one of its original attractions while preserving its history.
Six Flags Great Adventure has continued the restoration of its historic Runaway Train roller coaster by repainting the attraction in one of its original color schemes.
The park announced Friday that the restoration is intended to return the coaster to a classic appearance while honoring one of the attractions that has been part of the park since it opened in 1974.
Runaway Train debuted during Six Flags Great Adventure's inaugural season and has remained one of the park's signature attractions for more than five decades.
"Runaway Train is more than a roller coaster. It's part of the story of Six Flags Great Adventure," Ryan Eldredge, the park's director of sales and marketing, said in a statement. "As we continue investing in the future of our park, we're equally committed to preserving the attractions that helped shape it."
The restoration comes as the park continues several other projects, including the debut of Shoreline Pier at The Boardwalk and construction of a record-breaking roller coaster scheduled to open in 2027.
