Many beachgoers looked for thriftier ways to spend their cash while enjoying Memorial Day weekend at the Jersey Shore.
Visitors looked for different ways to spend less, from shorter hotel stays to packing lunches instead of eating out.
"You know you try to cut corners where you can and try to enjoy the weekend," said Laura Mitchell.
Mitchell and her family packed a cooler of food, using frozen bottles of water to chill their lunches. When the bottles melted, the family was able to hydrate themselves with the leftover water.
Others like Mark Davis tried to save a couple bucks by using municipal parking rather than private lots, where prices can range around $20.
Mitchell found an even more cost efficient way of parking by arriving early and parking near a home.
"Free parking on the street," she said. "Nothing there, no expense."
