Locally owned businesses across the Garden State were hoping to see a boost in foot traffic for Small Business Saturday.
The annual event serves as a reminder that many mom-and-pop shops are counting on help from their community before they close out their books for the year.
The National Retail Federation was projecting a 3.6 percent boost in shopping revenue in November and December. That's greater than in 2015, which saw a 3.2 percent increase.
Analysts say they're expecting a good holiday season for retailers because consumers have seen steady job and income gains, which translates into more spending at local stores.
