The outage comes just as the theater was trying to survive financially during the pandemic. The outdoor shows were finally able to happen and it had lifted the spirits of the staff.
The shows are performed behind the theater's prop and costume making facility in Florham Park. For the audience it's just a short journey through the woods.
"You can tell when people arrive they're so excited they're going to sit down and see people performing live in front of them." says artistic director Bonnie Monte.
The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey typically produces seven shows a year, but due to COVID-19 its entire 2020 slate is moved to next year. The theater is still planning additional special performances when power returns.
