Slow-moving thunderstorms Wednesday brought heavy rain and strong winds to New Jersey.
The storms caused localized flooding, damage and power outages to towns across the state.
A home was struck by lightning on North Prospect Avenue in Bergenfield. Officials said everyone inside the home, including the family dog, was able to escape without injury.
Heavy rains caused flooding near Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson. Cars became stuck in the water on Fetty Avenue. Crews had to rescue people from their vehicles.
Traffic was backed up for miles near Willowbrook Mall in Wayne after the storm knocked down at least four utility poles. The parking lot near the mall, known to flood during periods of heavy rain, flooded out for a time.
Two people were hospitalized for injuries after a lightning strike in Wolcott Park in Eatontown. Officials did not immediately know the extent of their injuries.
A large tree came down on Sunrise Drive in Freehold. Neighbors said they were surprised that such a large tree would come down.
“I was stunned because I thought this was a healthy tree,” said one resident.  “I am glad no one got really hurt.”
Another tree fell onto a car in Woodbridge. No injuries were reported.
The state’s utility companies reported power outages in the thousands at various points during the storm. Most customers have since had their power restored.
News 12 New Jersey's meteorologists said Thursday’s weather is expected to be much improved over Wednesday’s storms. However, some isolated storms could be possible late Thursday afternoon into the evening hours.
