Seton Hall University college radio station WSOU has been named the top non-commercial station in the country.
It is the first time the station has ever won the Marconi Award, a prize comparable to an Emmy or Oscar, but for radio work.
WSOU's student managers went to Tennessee last month to accept the award.
"Everybody wanted to touch it," says station manager Molly Meller. "Everyone was so proud and everyone's really proud of WSOU."
WSOU 'Pirate Radio' began broadcasting in 1948. The student-run station beat out other non-commercial stations across the nation, including some professionally run stations.
