The Attorney General's Office released the identities of the two people killed in North Bergen over the weekend.

Joseph Aziz, of Jersey City, and Bryan Rivera, of North Bergen, were named as the two civilian drivers killed in the crash.

North Bergen Police Lt. Jason Appello was driving a marked police vehicle when he began following a Honda Accord driven by Aziz who was allegedly involved in a traffic violation. A minute later, the Accord collided with an uninvolved Toyota Corolla driven by Rivera on Tonnelle Avenue between 50th and 51st streets.

Both Aziz and Rivera were seriously injured and later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability as it looks into what led to the fatal incident.
