Sens. Cory Booker and Bob Menendez were among the Democratic senators who boycotted the vote for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.
Senate Republicans unanimously voted to approve Barrett in a committee vote. Democrats boycotted the event and filled their seats with pictures of people they say would be negatively affected if the Affordable Care Act is struck down.
Instead, Booker and Menendez met with New Jersey residents benefitting from Obamacare.
“We will boycott the hearing that is going on now, that we will not cooperate with this sham process,” Booker said.
“I’m sick and tired of hearing Republicans’ talking points about how the ACA isn’t really in danger. That’s a damn lie,” said Menendez.
Barrett could be confirmed by the full Senate next week. If confirmed, she could be on the Court in time to vote on an ACA challenge on Nov. 10.
