A football player from Paterson has been nominated for the Heart of a Giant award.
Shaqir Herbert, a senior at John F. Kennedy High School, says before football his behavior was wild and he was a problem in school.
Herbet gained support to play from his foster mother Sylvia Herbert, 64, who died from a heart attack last December. He now lives with his four siblings.
"I'm gonna just keep pushing, like use different obstacles you go through every day,” said Herbert.
The Heart of a Giant award recognizes student athletes in the Tri-State area for their work ethic and passion for football.
