It is strongly encouraged leaving your car at home and taking mass transit into the city. NJ Transit, path, and the ferry provide easy access to Manhattan.
Be prepared for extra security checkpoints all over the Times Square area. Around 7,000 police officers will be patrolling the area, and NYC sanitation department will have the big trucks filled with sand blocking intersections.
Alcohol, backpacks, and umbrella are not allowed in the secured area.
If you are taking the ferry, extra service will be provided to and from the city until 2 a.m. New Year's Day.
If you plan on riding NJ Transit, extra service to and from New York City will be available New Year's Eve until 6 a.m. New Year's Day, and extra evening and late night bus routes in and out of Port Authority Bus Terminal.
