The seal pup rescued by police officers from the middle of a busy Harvey Cedars road is showing signs of improvement.
Responding officers blocked traffic on
Long Beach Boulevard on Feb. 24 to move the seal to a safer place on Middlesex Avenue before she was taken in by rescuers from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.
When rescued, the seal showed no signs of injuries but was noted to be “in thin overall condition,” MMSC wrote in a Facebook post.
The seal began to show interest in food over the weekend and is now eating cut-up pieces of fish on her own. She no longer requires supplemental tube feedings of formula and electrolytes as her hydration levels return to normal, according to a Facebook post by MMSC.
There is currently no set release date for the pup, but anyone who would like to keep up with her rehabilitation progress is encouraged to check for updates on
MMSC’s social media pages.
