Some New Jersey victims of Superstorm Sandy say they feel Gov. Chris Christie has forgotten about them in his pursuit of the presidency.
About a dozen Sandy victims say that they plan to camp out across from the State House in Trenton for the next three days to get the attention of lawmakers.
Many of the demonstraters are still unable to return to their homes three years after the storm. They say they'll sit or stand outdoors the rest of the week. They will even stay outside during Wednesday's expected rainstorm to highlight their struggle.
The protesters say there are still thousands of people stuck in the Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, Elevation and Mitigation (RREM) program. They are pushing for victims to be able to get through the system quicker, and they want legislators to help.
The state Community Affairs Department says more than 7,400 people in New Jersey's main rebuilding grant program have received at least one payment to rebuild, reconstruct or elevate their homes, indicating they are under construction.
Of those, approximately 1,825 have completed construction.
The governor's office had no immediate comment about the protest.
