Work will soon begin to improve a railroad crossing in Elmwood Park, to prevent cars from getting stuck.
Rep. Bill Pascrell has been working with the Department of Transportation to work on this problem. In the last 40 years, there have been nearly 30 accidents at the Midland Park crossing. A few of them have been fatal.
The project will cost around $800,000 in state and federal money. It will include a queue system to make the intersection safer.
"You've got to give people a warning. The queue system is a great system, I advocate it," says Rep. Pascrell. "But remember, this is just one little place in the whole country in areas that are underfunded."
Construction at the crossing is expected to being sometime next week.
